I'm Lisa Walker, I am 54 married with an 11 year old daughter and I love teaching fitness in the community.
I am a fully qualified exercise to music and group fitness instructor with 19 years teaching experience. I currently teach 5 classes a week in Countesthorpe and Broughton Astley.
I started in the fitness industry in 1983 when my love of exercise became my job. I went on to teach aerobics for 11 years and taught the very first Step class to be held in Leicester! I opened my own Fitness centre in 1988 on Churchgate in Leicester and later in Sandacre St where I employed 10 fitness instructors and ran over 50 classes a week. Happy days!
In 1996 I decided on a change of direction and went on to work as a sales agent and then national sales manager for USA PRO fitness wear and later Fit Kit clothing. In 2000 I launched my own fitness clothing line called Inspired Bodywear which I designed, had manufactured in the Midlands and sold it online and in clubs.
This business took up an awful lot of my time and when my long awaited daughter was born I realised that I needed to find something that would fit into with my new life as a mother. In 2010 I finally decided to get back to my roots and start to teach fitness again. I had this idea of a dance fitness type class, I wanted it to be something that everyone could do and above all I wanted it to be fun! Somebody mentioned Zumba to me so I searched online, what I saw was exactly what I had envisioned! I signed up for the training right there & then.
I qualified on 11th April 2010 and ran my first class in Broughton Astley 3 days later! I got through some adrenaline that night, having had 15 years off teaching, I found myself standing up on the stage to a packed Hall of 85 people all wondering what Zumba was!
I need not have worried, they loved it and the rest, they say, is history. Zumba continued to be very popular for me for the next 7 years.
As time went on my classes changed and I progressed them to suit my customers needs. I always endeavour to keep things fresh and current and in 2017 I decided to break from the Zumba brand and re-name the classes to reflect thier current content.
I now teach Move It! Fit Mix Firm & Flex (for descriptions of these classes please see the individual tabs).
The positive feed back I get from people is wonderful and it is so good to see people enjoying exercising and feeling the benefit in so many ways.
My plans for the future are to keep teaching in the community, be the best I can be and deliver fun and effective classes that people want to take part in.
